Heather Swiger

Her Story

Heather Swiger is a Non-Profit Director with extensive public and private sector experience including more than 30 years in leadership roles in the homeless system and insurance industry. Heather has thirteen years of experience working within the community she serves and has enjoyed every moment. Heather is a powerful force in the workplace and uses her positive attitude and tireless energy to assist those in need. The commitment of her staff and volunteers and the interaction with those she serves has left an impact on her life and she is grateful for the experience.

Heather was born and raised in a small, blue-collar town by a union steel mill working father and stay at home mother. Her parents instilled respect for others and love of family and taught her early about hard work, struggle, and joy. Heather attended Catholic school as a child where she was taught ALL people are created equal and that care and compassion should be shown to all. Heather is driven each day to be as good of a human as both of her parents were in life.

After school Heather met her husband, Wes, and raised 4 wonderful children. Being a mother is Heather’s greatest accomplish and you can tell when she mentions any of their names. Heather is motivated every day to make her family as proud of her as she is of them. She has always been extremely involved in the public schools her children attended, as well as community athletics. Now that their children have grown and are out of the house, Heather and Wes recently transitioned from running children from event to event, to enjoying some leisure time. In her free time, Heather likes to travel with her family, walk, kayak, and ride bikes with her husband. However, her favorite activity is spending time with her and her husband’s fur babies; 4 dogs name Rachel, Chandler Bing, Monica and Ben Geller and a rabbit named Bunny.

Why She's Running

The call to serve is not new to Heather. Serving the community in a non-profit for over 13 years has given her insight on why we serve. Some individuals serve for their own agendas while others are called to serve because it offers them a chance to give something back to the community and make a difference to the people around them. Heather has always had the heart of a public servant and wants to make a difference for ALL people. You can guarantee she will fight daily for you and your family. Unfortunately, over recent years, we have seen a rise in hate, divisiveness, cruelty, and fear and it is time for a change. Heather is running to make that change. Change starts with a passion to do what is right for everyone, especially those whose voices are being silenced by those sworn to represent them. Heather believes the time is now to replace politicians who worry more about keeping their jobs than doing their jobs. Heather currently works for the people she serves and understands the concept. She believes the fight is real and she will work tirelessly for everyone. Heather knows everyone deserves someone to fight for them, she is optimistic about that fight and is running to represent you as your Ohio State Senator in District 19.

Top Initiatives

No matter how educated, talented, rich or well known you are, how you treat people ultimately tells all. Integrity is everything. Heather believes this and wakes every morning with a goal to live by that statement. Heather believes no one issue is too large and no person’s impact is too small. Today some live in a world where integrity is a memory not a goal, where empathy cannot be felt, and where discourse is the objective. Heather understands we must work daily to make a change for the good of us all. Heather’s top initiatives include voting rights, teacher’s rights, woman’s rights, healthcare and social justice. Heather understands these initiatives are cornerstones in our country’s future, for her family and yours. Heather’s goal is to focus and work towards a world where everyone has equality and is heard.

Heather believes we must work together to make the change we hope to see for our futures and those of our children. Teamwork and communication are key no matter what party you affiliate. Heather will work with everyone who wants to work towards a more inclusive community. Heather believes in an open-door policy so EVERY voice is heard. Government must be willing to understand all perspectives to make informed decisions. Every voice counts.
