Since January 22, 1973 the United States Supreme Court has protected a woman's right to choose whether to carry a fetus to term or not without excessive government interference. Banning abortion is an extreme act of control over another human and Ohio Republicans choose to ignore the majority of their constituents. In 2022, the position of our government should not be the elimination of rights of it's citizens, but the expansion of our laws to include more. New extreme laws will place women at risk of fines, prison and possibly death when making already impossible decisions with no exemptions for rape and/or incest. Republican legislators say they believe in protecting "life" from conception while overlooking a child struggling in poverty. They consistently vote against Universal Pre-K, paid maternity leave and health-care for all. Radical Republicans want to turn back the clock on women and Heather promises to fight like hell to make sure all women have the same rights as their male counterparts. We will NOT go back.
-Countries that prohibit abortion or limit it to a woman’s health have an abortion rate of 37 per 1,000 and 34 per 1,000 in countries that broadly allow abortion
-Estimated to be 25 million unsafe abortion happening annually, most in developed countries
-In Ohio, abortion rate has decrease from 40k+ in 1977 to under 20k in 2020 per odh.gov
-Abortion facility travel in Ohio would increase from 50 mile median to 146 mile median
-Lower economic demographics will be impacted at a higher rate than those financially
stable
We ALL deserve the same human rights. The LGBTQ+ community is one of the most discriminated groups in recent history. Republicans show a blatant disregard for the rights and dignity of the entire LGBTQ+ community by launching attacks infringing their equal rights. Hate is universal and Heather believes every member of our community deserves the freedom to live their life without fear of discrimination or harm. She promises to proactively work to promote the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ people and will foster an inclusive, safe and welcoming environment both in the community, as well as, the state house.
-1 in 3 LGBTQ+ Americans faced discrimination last year
-About 3 in 10 LGBTQ+ Americans have issues accessing medical treatment
-Discrimination affects the mental and physical well-being of the LGBTQ+ community
Effective June 13, 2022, Ohio legislators passed the Permitless Carry Bill permitting a "qualifying adult" to legally carry, possess or conceal a handgun without a license, background check or training requirements. Ohio currently ranks #30 in the country for Gun Law Safety and firearms have become the number one cause of death in children ages 1-19 in the United States. Many law enforcement professionals are against this new bill and Heather completely agrees. She believes our neighbors should not fear the grocery store, nor should our children fear attending school. Teachers should not plan for an active shooter nor should they be expected to be the last line of defense in our schools. In an age of increased gun violence, our Republican legislators are working to place more weapons into the community than less. Heather wants to work to create sensible gun laws that will protect all of our citizens from the fear and violence the gun epidemic has caused in our society. Our children deserve better than what Republicans are offering.
-1,762 Ohioans died by firearm in 2021, 2nd highest year on record
-2021 had a 62% increase from 2007
-American Journal for Public Health found states with concealed carry laws, like Ohio, had an 11% increase in the handgun homicide rate than those without

4,028 individuals died in 2021 of unintentional overdoes, which is up 7% from 2018. Since 2007, unintentional drug poisoning has surpassed motor vehicle deaths as the leading cause of injury deaths. Over 200k Ohioans suffer from addiction and Ohio has one of the highest drug over dose death rates involving opioids in the US. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention report 62% of those deaths were from fentanyl or heroin and had a prescribed record of at least 1 opioid. In 2017, 63 out of 100 prescriptions in the US were from high-dose opioid pills. When no longer available, people will find substitutes on the streets. Heather knows our children are dying from our inaction and isn't willing to stand by and do nothing.
-Black non-Hispanic – 42.9 deaths per 100k
-White non-Hispanic – 37.8 deaths per 100k
- Prevention Education – Educating our children about life and social skills which include decision making and refusal skills.
-Alternatives – Youth engagement in activities such as athletics, music programs and clubs.
Providing extracurricular activities not only engages youth but recognizes talents that may
otherwise be overlooked. Finding paths early that help deter drug use later.
-Recognition & Treatment – Assistance for those struggling with addiction is pivotal. Addiction is a disease and like any disease must be diagnosed and treated. Our society loses sons and daughters every single day throughout Ohio. Healthy communities benefit us all.
